Abstract

ABSTRACT The study aims to increasing motivation and learning outcomes of grade students at VII.A MTs Faqihul Ilmi in Makassar city through the implementation of cooperative learning model of TPS type along with reinforcement. This study is classroom action research. The study involved all students in grade VII.A MTs Faqihul Ilmi in Makassar with the total of 26 students as saturated subjects. The instruments used in data collection were observation sheet of teacher and student, questionnaire sheet of students’ learning motivation, and Mathematics test. Each student who finished giving the answer and asking question would be given reinforcement. Data analysis technique used in this study was statistics descriptive analysis. The first day of observation result shows that the average of the students’ activeness was still low. In the second day of meeting, there is improvement of the average of students’ motivation. Students were more motivated in Mathematics learning in each meeting in cycle I. In cycle II, students’ motivation began to appear. Students started to be seen cheerful, enthusiast in following the lesson. Students’ attention in Mathematics activities appeared to be serious but in an enjoyable atmosphere with the mean score of students’ learning motivation based on observation in cycle I was 55.91% and in cycle II improved to 83.10%, the result of student’ learning motivation questionnaire was also improved from 78.15% (cycle I) to 90.12% ( cycle II). The results of action research in cycle I and cycle II on Mathematics learning by implementing cooperative learning model of TPS type along with reinforcement were also showed improvements of students’ learning. Overall, the learning outcomes improved from cycle I to cycle II, 70.08% to 92.31% respectively. Thus, the conclusion of the study is motivation and learning outcomes of grade VII.A on Mathematics learning at the MTs Faqihul Ilmi in Makassar city can be improved by implementing TPS (Think Pair Sahre) type along with reinforcement.
