Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop valid and reliable authentic assessment instrument to measure students’ mathematics competencies with project-based learning settings. The research method uses Research and Development (R&D) which refers to Plomps’s model. This study involved one class of grade VIII consisted of 28 students. The research developed consisted of research instrument and research product with Relation and Function Material. The data obtained in this study were the validation result by the experts, the results of group and individual assessments as well as the responses of teachers and students. The results of group assessments were obtained by two project assignments that measure students’ competencies on the aspects of knowledge and skills while individual assessments were obtained by test to measure students’ competencies on the aspects of individual knowledge, skills and attitudes. The authentic assessment instrument which had been developed to get a very good criteria from the experts and to produce a valid and reliable instrument based on limited trials had been done. The instrument of knowledge and skills assessment applied to project 1 obtained a reliability coefficient of 0.954 and 0.829, while in project 2, both instruments produced a reliability coefficient of 0.970 and 0.831. The test instrument given at the end of the learning and the instrument of mathematics attitudes assessment obtained a reliability coefficient of 0.806 and 0.795. Based on the results of the study and discussion, the authentic assessment instrument which had been developed in project-based mathematics learning is appropriate to be applied in Relation and Functions Material for grade VIII to measure the students’ attitudes, knowledge and skills competencies.
