Abstract

CHARACTERISTICS OF STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICAL THINKING CONNECTION BASED ON LEARNING STYLES AT SMAN 7 MAKASSAR Sitti Aisyah, Abdul Rahman, Asdar Mathematics Education Postgraduate Program Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia e-mail: sittiaisyah04@gmail.com ABSTRACT This research is descriptive with qualitative approach, which aims to know the characteristics of a new mathematical connections in terms of students learning styles on trigonometric material in students of SMAN 7 Makassar. The subjects of this study were 6 students, 2 students with visual learning style, 2 students with auditory learning style, and 2 students with kinesthetic learning style. Instruments used were learning style questionnaires, diagnostic tests, trigonometry applications, and interview quidelines. The results of this study indicate that the characteristics of students’ connections thought in terms of learning style vary greatly among others that is 1). Student who learn style visual and kinesthetic learning style work in a systematic, while students learn the style of auditory doing the problem analysis; 2). Students who learn visual style in solving the problem always use the picture, while the students who studied auditory and kinesthetic in solving the problem using the image on a particular problem only; 3). Students of visual styliing are abstracted, Students of auditory semiconnel studied learners, and kinesthetic learning students in a concrete way. Keywords: Mathematical connection, learning style
