Abstract
ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to identify (1) the learning styles used by the second year students of English department of FKIP UKI Toraja and (2) whether students’ learning styles have significant effects on learning reading comprehension. The reasercher employed a descriptive quantitative design. The population of this research were the students of English department of FKIP UKI Toraja in academic year 2015/2016. This research used random sampling technique which involved 30 students. The data of this research were collected through SAS questionnaire adapted from Rebecca L. Oxford (1993) to find out the students’ learning styles. The data were analyzed by using ANOVA. The research result showed that (1) The learning styles of the second year students of English department of FKIP UKI Toraja were visual 15 (50%), auditory 9 (30%), and kinesthetic 6 (20%) and (2) The use of students’ learning styles in teaching reading showed that there was an improvement. It was proved by the mean score of the pretest and the posttest were 64.6 < 82.6. The difference of both scores is statistically based on ANOVA were in the pretest the level of significance is 0.220 that means the level of significance is > 0,05 (5%) and in the posttest the level of significance is 0.001 that means the level of significance is < 0.05 (5%). Which is the highest score was from students’ visual style. It was proved by the mean score of the pretest and the posttest were 66.5 < 86. It means students’ result score influenced by students’ learning style.
