Abstract

Makassar is one of the largest cities in Indonesia that is vulnerable to extreme rain events, so the factors that cause extreme rain in Makassar are very important to know as an initial step in disaster mitigation. The data used in this research is daily rainfall data, wind data (divergence and relative vorticity), Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO), outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) anomaly, and southern oscillation index (SOI) in 2017-2021. There were 43 extreme rains in Makassar, with the dominant factors causing extreme rain in Makassar being convergent wind patterns, cyclonic wind patterns and negative OLR anomaly. These three factors also occur around the Makassar area so that they indirectly help in the formation of extreme rain in Makassar
