Abstract
ABSTRACT (supervised by Alimuddin and Asdar). The research aimed to gain information on teachers’ competence in mathematics subject at SMAN 2 rantepao in implementing scientific research based on teacher competence test result. The research was qualitative. The main instrument of the research was the researcher herself and the supporting instruments were in forms of lesson plan observation sheet, learning implementation observation sheet, and interview guidance. The subjects of the research were mathematics teachers at SMAN 2 Rantepao in North Toraja District with 2 (two) teachers, 1 (one) teacher did not pass the teacher competence exam category when the research was conducted and 1 (one) teacher passed the teacher competence exam category when the research was conducted. The results of the research reveal that: (1) the teachers’ difficulties in planning the learning process are: the first and the second subject tend to have difficulty in describing components in basic competence which become the indicators, both subjects tende to have difficulty in choosing learning media aligned with the material and scientific approach, (2) the subjects’ abilities in implementing the learning process are: (a) the first subject (did not pass teacher competence test) tends to have difficulty in implementing the learning process based on the lesson plan made, the subject tends to have difficulty in connecting the learning material with real problems, the subject tends to have difficulty in implementing scientific approach, particulary motivating the students to ask and give reason, (b) the second subject (passed teacher competence test) in implementing scientific approach is stated as in good category, proved by the subject activity in learning that he/she was able to raise five scientific steps in learning process well, and able to guide and lead the students to follow the five scientific steps.
