Abstract
This paper provides an overview about teacher education program which has been a major characteristic of LPTK. It begins with a general description about what educational practitioners thought about the conversion. Historical overview about the conversion of IKIP to university is the explained to refresh the initial purpose of the conversion. Documentary analysis is the main method used to explain the aims of the status change. A study related to the impact of the conversion to the LPTK ex IKIP is also delivered shortly. It then follows by literature reviews about teacher education program specifically the discussion about what student teachers are expected to learn to become a teacher. It ends by presenting challenges faced by LPTK especially for those of IKIPs regarding the future development of teacher education program.
