Abstract

The research is a pre experiment wich aims to describe the effectiveness of mathematics learning by implementing the combination of cooperative learning model of make a match type and discovery learning to class VII students at SMPN 2 Parepare. The population of the research were all of class VII students at SMPN 2 Parepare and the sample was class VII.1 as the experiment class taught by using the combination of cooperative learning model of make a match type and discovery learning which was chosen by using simple random sampling technique. The data collections consist of the students’ mathematics learning result, data of students’ activities in learning, and data of students’ responses after the implementation of the combination of cooperative learning model of make a match type and discovery learning. The data of students’ activities and responses were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, while the data of students’ mathematics learning result were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics analysis. The results of the research show that the implementation of the combination of cooperative learning model of make a match type and discovery learning in assemblage lesson material to class VII students at SMPN 2 Parepare is effective based on the aspects of: (a) the students’ learning result with average of posttest score is bigger than the average pretest score, the average of posttest is 80.62 ≥ Minimum Completeness Criteria, the average of gain score is 0.6, and the students who reach completeness is 87.5% ≥ 85%; (b) the students’ learning activity with the average of activity percentage is 69.05% > 60%; and (c) the students’ response with the average percentage is 81.00% (positive category) > 65%. The result of hypothesis test in significant level α = 0,05 with t-test indicates that the combination of cooperative learning model of make a match type and discovery learning is effective to be implemented in mathematics learning in assemblage lesson material to class VII students at SMPN 2 Parepare.
