Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out topics of English materials that appropriate in design instructional materials for nursing students based on need analysis. The researcher applied descriptive research. The data were taken from questionnaire and interview. The subjects of this research were students, English Lecturers, and graduate students of Indonesia Timur University (UIT) who works in two Hospitals. The sampling techniques were purposive sampling for students and convenience sampling for lectures and graduate students. There were 20 students as respondents in this research, 3 lecturers and 5 graduate students. The findings of this research are some topics of English materials that appropriate in design instructional materials for nursing students based on their needs analysis. It is about blood system then followed by Medical terms,General assessment,Hospital and Ward, Nursing Treatment, Nursing Process,Health and Illness, Kinds of disease,Clinical Interviewing, Hygiene and Organic food, Microbes, Organ of Human Being (Vital Organ), Nutrition and diet, Symptom and sign, Drugs and Medication, Taking care of patient post operation, Speaking on the telephone and writing application letter and CVs. In this research, one topic is designed as instructional material. The result of this research as Instructional materials based on students need would be recommended materials for Institution of UIT and lecturers who as textbook writer.
