Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to find out: (1) the English teachers’ perception about Curriculum 2013, and (2) the implementation of Curriculum 2013 in SMA 1 SUNGGUMINASA. This research employed descriptive qualitative method. The participants of this research were 2 English teachers who had joined the training of Curriculum 2013. The data were collected through semi-structured interviewed, observation and documentation. The data were analyzed by qualitatively analysis which included transcribed the data, reduced the data, display the data and interpreted the data. The result of the research reveals that: (1) the teachers showed fairly positive perceptions towards the curriculum 2013. They expected curriculum 2013 could develop the curriculum development and educational system in Indonesia. However, they displayed less positive perceptions in terms of some components of curriculum 2013, such as the scientific approach existing in curriculum 2013 and the assessment’s rubrics for three competencies, i.e., attitudes, skills and knowledge, particularly the attitudes’ assessment. They are mostly concerned that the learning process is still not effective due to the implementation of the curriculum 2013 is still in progress and improvements still need to complete the implementation of all schools in Indonesia, so that it needs to provide training to all teachers in order to have better understanding about curriculum 2013; and (2) The teaching and learning process in curriculum 2013 emphasizes on using a scientific approach. The critical point of the implementation of curriculum 2013 involves the design of lesson plan; and the implementation of teaching-learning process in accordance with lesson plan. Therefore, the implementation of curriculum 2013 in SMA 1 Sungguminasa is still not running well and ineffective because the results showed that there were still components of teaching-learning process that were not implemented by the teachers in teaching-learning process in accordance with the lesson plan of curriculum 2013. The steps of scientific approach did not also implemented systematically and appropriately in the teaching-learning process.
