Abstract

ABSTRACT This research presents an experimental study dealing with the use of WebQuest Model and Non WebQuest Model in teaching reading comprehension. The objective of this research was to prove WebQuest Model or Non WebQuest Model is more effective to enhance the reading comprehension of the Ninth grade students of SMPN 36 Makassar. This research employed experimental design which involved two Group classes. The experimental class was taught by using WeQuest Model and the Control class was taught by using Non WebQuest Model (Three Phase Technique). The instruments of this research were reading test and questionnaire of interests. The population of this research was the Ninth grade students of SMPN 36 Makassar. This research took 56 students as the sample. IX.4 as samples in experimental class and IX.3 as samples in control class. The result of this research showed that the students’ reading comprehension which were taught by using WebQuest model is higher than the students which were taught by using Non WebQuest model. It is supported by the mean score of the students in Experiment Class was 87.02 higher than the mean score of the students in Control Class was 80.63 and it was proven by the mean score of the students’ interest 78.4 which was categorized as good, Therefore, H1 (alternative hypothesis) of this research which said WebQuest Model is more effective than Non WebQuest Model to enhance students’ reading comprehension achievement could be accepted. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan WebQuest model atau non WebQuest model yang lebih efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca pada siswa tingkat Sembilan SMPN 36 Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan model eksperimental yang melibatkan dua kelas. Kelas experimental diajar menggunakan WebQuest modeldan Kelas Kontrol diajar menggunakan Non WebQuest Model (Three Phase Technique). Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu test kemampuan pemahaman membaca dan angket minat siswa. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah tingkat delapan SMPN 36 Makassar. Penelitian ini mengambil 56 siswa sebagai sample penelitian,Kelas IX.4 sebagai sample di kelas experimendan IX.3 sebagai sampel di kelas kontrol. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman membaca siswa yang diajar menggunakan teknik WebQuest Model lebih tinggi peningkatannya dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan Non WebQuest Model. Itu dibuktikan dengan perbandingan nilai rata-rata siswa pada kelas Experimen yaitu 87.02 lebih tinggi dari nilai rata-rata pada siswa kelas Kelas Kontrol yaitu80.63.itu juga di dukung dengan nilai rata rataketertarikan siswa yaitu 78.4 yang di kategorikan“Baik”.karena itu dapat di simpulkan bahwa alternative hipotesis yang menyatakan bahwaWebQuest Model lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan Non WebQuest Model (Three Phase Technique) dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dapat diterima.
