Abstract

The aim of study is determine the effect of nitrogen fertilizer granulated with nitrification inhibitors and zeolite materials on the rate of nitrification and the production of greenhouse gases as well as its responsible microbe in soil and maize growth . The experiments were conducted both incubation and field experiment. It can be concluded that urea granules with sustained release material (zeolite) as well as natural inhibitors of neem has the capacities to inhibit nitrification on various types of soil used both in the laboratory and field scale while increase microbe population. This can be also indicated that the rates of ammonium and nitrate mineralization were slower or smaller compared to urea alone. However, neem inhabit the nitrification rate was lower compared to dicyandiamide. Nevertheless, considering the availability and price of natural materials neem has promising potential to be in use to reduce the rate of nitrification which in turn can reduce the use of fertilizers by farmers and also reduce the production of N2O as a greenhouse gas.
