Abstract
he Effect of Integrating Problem-based Learning and Cooperative Jigsaw on Critical Think- ing Skills. This research investigated the effect of Integration of Problem-based Learning with Cooperative Jigsaw on the critical thinking skill of students with different academic abilities in learning Basic Biology. This research used quasi experimental design with pretest-postest nonequivalent control group design and factorial pattern 4x2. The independent variables in this research were the learning strategies of Problem- based Learning (PBL), Cooperative Jigsaw, the integration of PBL and Cooperative Jigsaw, and conven- tional learning strategy as factor A, and academic abilities as factor B which included high and low aca- demic abilities as the moderator variable. The dependent variable of this research was the students’ critical thinking skill. The data collection was conducted by using concept comprehension test on integrated Basic Biology. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive approach and inferential with Ancova.The re- sults are of three points: (1) the learning strategy has an effect on the critical thinking skill of the students; the integration of PBL and Cooperative Jigsaw have potential to improve the concept comprehension of the students, (2) the academic abilities do not have any effect on the students’ critical thinking skill; the students with low academic ability show higher percentage in the change of critical thinking skill com- pared to those with high academic ability, and (3) the interaction between the learning strategy with the ac- ademic abilities does not have any effect on the critical thinking skill of the students.
