Abstract

The aim of this study was to determin the growth the survival rate and the biological conditions of catfish (Clarias sp.) cultivated in peatland drainage channel in the Lalolae Village, East Kolaka Regency. The fish was cultured in a pen culture measuring 5.0 m long, 2.4 m wide and 1.2 m height, a net mesh of 0.5 cm. The pen was positioned parallel to the drainage channel. The size of the catfish seeds ranged from 2.5-3.5 g. The fish was given artificial feed 2-3% of body weight/day containing > 20% protein. The absolute growth of the fish on day 36, 120 and 156 was 22.1 g, 63.8 g and 29.15 g, respectively. The survival rate decreased from 89.33% on day 36 to 65.38% on day 120 and to 61.66% on the harvesting time. The catfish production in peatland drainage was 5.1 kg/m2. Water quality measurements include pH (4.8-5.9) and temperature (26-32oC). Catfish is a potential species to cultivated in peatland drainage channels as an alternative commodity.
