Abstract
Mutmainnah, 2017. Building up Student’s Positive Attitude towards Learning English through Interpersonal Communication: A Case Study At Madrasah Aliyah Yayasan Perguruan Islam Ganra Kabupaten Soppeng. A thesis. English Department. Faculty of Languages and Literature. State University of Makassar (Supervised by Syarifuddin Dollah and Ahmad Thalib). The objective of the research describes student’s positive attitude through interpersonal communication out of English learning process at Madrasah Aliyah Yayasan Perguruan Islam Ganra Kabupaten Soppeng. This descriptive qualitative method took only one student of first year at Madrasah Aliyah Yayasan Perguruan Islam Ganra Kabupaten Soppeng in academic year 2016/2017 by using purposive sampling technique. The data collected through questionnaire and interviews were analyzed qualitatively. The results of data analysis showed that (1) the students got more advice and motivation, (2) the students were entering the classroom and doing her assignments diligently, (3) the student was more active in the classroom; (4) the student got a lot of knowledge (5) giving positive impact to the student in learning English. The researcher concludes that interpersonal communication could effective to build up the student’s positive attitude in learning English of first year student in Madrasah Aliyah Perguruan Islam Ganra Kabupaten Soppeng.
