Abstract
ABSTRACT DEWI SARTIKA. Improving Reading Comprehension of the Second Semester Students of STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone through The Student-Made Question Technique (Supervised by H. Haryanto, and M. Nasiruddin Sainu) This research aims at finding out whether or not the use of SMQ tehnique can develop the students’ Reading Comprehension furhermore, it is intended to know the students’ attitude toward the use of SMQ technique to improve Reading Comprehension at the Second Semester of English department student of STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone. The research applied quasi experimental method. The sample consisted of 40 students which belonged to two groups; 20 students in experimental group and 20 students in control group. the data were collected by using SMQ for the students’ reading comprehension to know the studentss’ interest which was analyzed thrugh SPSS 20. The research result indicated that the useof closed caption tehnique can develop students reading comprehension at English Language and Art Department at STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone 2014/2015academic year. The students result of posttest for experimental group was higher than the students’ result of posttest for control group. it was proven by the mean score of posttest of experimental was higher than the control group in reading (78,25 > 70,25). The differences of those mean score was statistically significant; it was based on t-test value at significant level (0,07 > 0.05). Based on the students’ response on the questionaire, it was found that the mean score is (78,25), which was categorized “interested” specifically. The research result indicated that the use of SMQ get good respond and effective to apply in reading English. ABSTRAK DEWI SARTIKA. Nasiruddin Sainu) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah teknik SMQ dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca mahasiswa pada jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi experimental. Sample dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas 40 siswa yang tebagi menjadi dua kelompok yaitu 20 mahasiswa dikelompok experimental dan 20 mahasiswa dikelompok kontrol.data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes membaca untukmengetahui kemampuan membaca mahasiswa dengan menggunakan SMQ dan angket untuk mengetahui ketertarikan mahasiswa yang dianalisis dengan menggunakan SPSS 20 . Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa teknik SMQ dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca bahasa inggris mahasiswa bahasa dan seni inggris semester II di STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone tahun pelajaran 2014/2015. nilai rata-rata postest kelompok eksperimental lebih tinggi dari pada nilai rata-rata postest kelompok kontrol (78,25 > 70,25). Secara statistik nilai rata-rata tersebut berbeda secara signifikan. Hal ini berdasarkan nilai uji-t pada level signifikan (0,07 > 0,05).berdasarkan jawaban siswa dalam pemberian angket diketahui bahwa nilai rata- rata yaitu (78,25) yang mana berbeda pada kategori positif. Secara spesifik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaann teknik SMQ efektif dan respon yang baik untuk pemahaman membaca. sementara nilai rata rata kelompok kontrol adalah 70,25. Ini berarti bahwa nilai rata-rata kelompok eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada nilai rata-rata kelompok kontrol.
