Abstract

This research was ex-post facto, the aim was investigated directly and indirectly the contribution of divergent thinking ability and self efficacy towards mathematics learning achievement through independent learning on grade VIIIth of SMP Negeri in North Galesong Takalar Regency in 2017/ 2018. The research population was 582 students with the number of samples were 197 students. Samples of this research were chosen by proportional random sampling technique. Instruments have used in this research were (1) divergent thinking ability test, (2) self efficacy scale, (3) independent learning scale, and (4) mathematics learning achievement test. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and SEM analysis (Structural Equation Modelling). The result of the research shows that (1) most of students on grade VIIIth of SMP Negeri in North Galesong, Takalar Regency have divergent thinking are in enough category, self efficacy are in very high category, independent learning are in high category, and the mathematics learning achievement is in very low category. (2) Self efficacy have an influence toward independent learning directly, whereas divergent thinking ability have no influence toward independent learning directly. (3) Divergent thinking ability and independent learning have an influence toward students’ mathematics learning achievement directly, whereas self efficacy have no influence toward students’ mathematics learning achievement directly. (4) Self efficacy have an influence toward students’ mathematics learning achievement through independent learning indirectly, whereas divergent thinking ability have no influence toward students’ mathematics learning achievement through independent learning indirectly.
