Abstract
This study is descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were four students of grade XI MIA 1 at MAN 2 Kota Makassar of academic year 2018/2019. The study was started by determining research subjects using MFFT instrument. Communication ability was also considered in choosing the subjects. Afterwards, the researcher gave critical thinking ability test in solving the function of composition and inverse problems, and interviewed the subjects. Data validity employed method triangulation and source triangulation. The results of the research reveal that: The impulsive subjects in clarification category were able to identify the main assumption from the problems. In assessment category, the subjects were able to propose specific steps directed to solutions but less complete. In inference category, the subjects were able to arrange the correlation of different parts of the problems but the solution steps were inappropriate to solve the problems. The subjects were able to make conclusions but inappropriate with the result of the solutions. In strategy category, the subjects were able to evaluate the solution steps without careful consideration. As a result, the solution written was incorrect. The reflective subjects, in clarification category were able to identify the main assumption from the problems. In assessement category, the subjects were able to propose specific steps directed to complete solutions. In inference category, the subjects were able to arrange the correlation of different parts of the solutions. In strategy category, the subjects were able to evaluate the solution steps conducted. The impulsive subjects were quick to give response without careful consideration. As a result, the response given tended to be wrong. While the reflective subjects studied it with careful considerations in solving the problems. The subjects thought before and before answering the questions so they tended to need longer time but tended to be correct.
