Abstract

This study was conducted to the third year students of Vocational High School 6 Makassar. The problem statement of this study were: (1) Does the use of Commercial Food Wraps significantly enhance the writing skill of the students? (2) Are the 3rdgrade students of Vocational High School 6 of Makassar interested in attending the writing class through Jigsaw technique? Based on the problem statement above, this study consists of two objectives: (1) to find out whether or not the use of Commercial Food Wraps significantly enhance the students’ writing skill. (2) to find out whether or not the students interested in attending the writing class through Jigsaw technique. The research design of this study was quasi-experimental design with two groups, experimental and control. The experimental group did pre-test, received the treatment, and did the post-test; therefore the controlled group did pre-test and post-test by using conventional media that used to be conducted by the teacher in the classroom. The study consisted of eight meetings, one meeting for pretest, five meetings for treatment, one meetings for post-test, and one meeting for questionnaire. The sample consisted of 30 students of third grade of Vocational High School 6 of Makassar from Cooking Department and Pastry, in academic year 2015/2016. The procedure of data collection in this study involve two kinds of instruments: writing test for the students’ writing skill and questionnaire for students’ interest. The result of students’ writing were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics then data on the students’ interest were analyzed using Likert scale. This study outcomes were: (1) the use of commercial Food wraps in teaching writingenhance the students writing skill; (2) the use of commercial food wraps through jigsawenhanced the students’ interest in writing. As a conclusion, the use of Commercial Food Wraps through Jigsaw technique is effective to improve the students’ interest in writing skills in terms of content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics.
