Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research are to find out : (1) the use of flowchart to improve the students’ writing narrative paragraph focus on the organization and on the vocabulary at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tinggimoncong and (2) the students’ intersted in the use of flowchart in writing narrative paragraph. This research employed a quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Tinggimoncong. This research use cluster random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 60 students, divided into two classes; 30 students in experimental group and 30 students in control group. Research instruments used to collect the data in this research were writing test and questionnaire. The data were analyzed by using Independent Samples Test and inferential statistics on SPSS version 20.0. The result of research shows that there is an improvement of the students’ ability in pretest and posttest in experimental group is more significantly improved than the students’ result of posttest of the control group by the mean score 8.117>7.353 in organization and 7.910>7.337 in vocabulary. The difference of both scores is statistically significant based on the t-test value of significant level that is 0.05 in which the probability value is lower than the significant level (0.000<0.05). The mean score of the students’ interest in experimental group is 79.63 and it is categorized as high interest. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of Flowchart method enhanced the students’ achievement in writing narrative paragraph and the students were interested in learning writing narrative. .
