Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims at finding out (i) the use of drama effective to improve the students’ speaking accuracy, (ii) the use of drama effective to improve the students’ speaking fluency, (iii) the use of drama effective to improve the students’ speaking comprehensibility. This research was conducted by using queasy-experimental method and involved 20 students for experimental class and 26 students for control class. The instruments were used in this study was speaking test in order to know the students’ speaking accuracy, speaking fluency, and speaking comprehensibility. The instrument was designed in communicative speaking. Data on the students’ speaking ability were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and data from speaking test were analyzed descriptively. The result of the research were : (1) the use of Drama in teaching speaking improved the students speaking ability; (2) the use of Drama increased the students’ effectively in joining the speaking class. It can be concluded that the use of Drama was effective to be implemented in improving the students’ speaking ability in terms accuracy, fluency, and comprehensibility and active toward teaching speaking through Drama.   ABSTRAK RISMADAYANTI S. (Dibimbing oleh Burhanuddin Arafah dan Mansur Akil) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (i) penggunaan drama efektif meningkatkan akurasi berbicara siswa, (ii) penggunaan drama efektif meningkatkan kefasihan berbicara siswa, (iii) penggunaan drama efektif meningkatkan pemahaman berbicara siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan quasi experimental, melibatkan 20 siswa untuk kelas eksperimental dan 26 siswa untuk kelas kontrol sebagai peserta. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes berbicara yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui akurasi berbicara siswa, kefasihan berbicara and pemahaman ketika siswa berbicara. Instrumen yang digunakan berbentuk bahasa yang komunikatif. Data kemampuan berbicara siswa dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial, dan tes berbicara dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan melihat presentase. Hasil penelitian adalah : (1) Penggunaan Drama meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara, dan (2) Siswa memiliki keefektifan yang sangat tinggi terhadap penggunaan Drama efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dalam keakuratan, kefasihan, dan pemahaman, dan siswa sangat aktif terhadap pengajaran berbicara melalui Drama
