Abstract

Introducing Discourse Analysis This chapter provides a detail description about the study of Discourse Analysis (DA) as one important branch in the study of linguistics. I should explain firstly the definition of a discourse itself as the basic idea in this chapter. Then, I go on explaining the term Discourse Analysis (DA), which I then compare to other related terms such as content analysis, Conversation Analysis (CA), and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). I consider these terms to be explained in this first part as the underlying concepts of doing DA. A brief historical overview is also provided in this chapter. The last is about the position of DA in the study of linguistics, which is important to know for readers, especially for students in order to know the theoretical framework underlying the study of DA in terms of linguistic study.
