Abstract

ABSTRACT MERTINA RENATA RAJAGUKGUK. 2020. Variety of Teenagers Languages in SMPN 8 Makassar (supervised by Mayong and Muhammad Saleh). The study aims to discover: (1) the lexical characteristics of the variety of teenagers languages in SMPN 8 Makassar, (2) the grammatical characteristics of the variety of teenagers languages in SMPN 8 Makassar. This study is a qualitative descriptive research. The students of SMPN 8 Makassar were the source of data, utterances containing lexical characteristics and utterances containing grammatical characteristics as data. The data collection techniques were conducted by using tapping, note-taking, and snowball sampling techniques. The data analysis techniques were conducted in several stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion and verification of the results of the study. The results of this study indicate that; First, there are six lexical characteristics of teenagers language variety in SMPN 8 Makassar, namely repetition with eight data, synonymy (equivalent words) with seven data, antonymy (opposite words) with five data, collocation (sanding words) with two data, hyponymy (relationship above-down) with one data, equivalent with one data. Second, the grammatical characteristics of the variety of teenagers languages in SMPN 8 Makassar consist of four, namely references with twenty data and reference by forms with three data, substitution with four data, ellipsis with two data, conjunction with fourteen data. In this study, a number of lexical and grammatical characteristics that connect sentences in a number of tables are shown. Based on the grammatical characteristics of the language variety of the students at SMPN 8 Makassar, the researcher discovered a part of the demostrative reference, namely the pronoun atmosphere which is one of the grammatical features with four data. Suggestions for future researchers, they should increase knowledge about research on the variety of teenagers languages related to lexical and grammatical features with different theories.
