Abstract

ABSTRACT NURHAYATI. 2013. The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Strategy to Increase the Speaking Skill and Motivation of the Students of SMPN 1 Mattirosompe, Pinrang (supervised by Baso Jabu and M. Nasiruddin Sainu) The objectives of this research are to describe: (1) whether or not the use of cooperative learning is effective to increase the speaking ability of the students of SMPN 1 Mattirosompe, and (2) whether or not the use of cooperative learning motivates the students of SMPN 1 Mattirosompe to learn speaking. This research applied quasi experimental research and it applied census system in which all the members of population was taken as the sample of the research that consists of 30 students.the data were collected by using speaking test and questionnaire. The data of the students’ learning achievement on English speaking were collected by using monologue while the data on the students’ motivation were collected by using questionnaire. Those data were then analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The result of data analysis indicated that: (1) the cooperative learning effective significantly the students speaking achievement after the treatment. Cooperative learning effective in increasing English speaking achievement of the students better than conventional activity as indicated by the t-test value 24.403 and the p-value(2-tailed).000 which was not greater than 0.5 level of significance; (2) the students were motivated in learning English speaking by using cooperative learning technique, as indicated by the mean score 85.97. It means that the students were classified very high motivation. ABSTRAK NURHAYATI. 2013. Keefektifan Strategi Pembelajaran Kooperatif Untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Berbicara dan Motivasi Siswa SMPN 1 Mattirosompe, Pinrang (dibimbing oleh Baso Jabu and M. Nasiruddin Sainu) Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan : (1) apakah tehnik pembelajaran kooperatif secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan (2) apakah siswa termotivasi belajar berbicara menggunakan tehnik pembelajaran kooperatif. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental semu dan menggunakan system sensus yang mana semua siswa menjadi sampel dala penelitian ini. Siswa terdiri dari 30 orang. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes dan kuesioner.data kemampuan siswa dalam pembelajaran berbicara bahasa inggris dikumpulkan melalui monolog dan data motivasi siswa dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner. Data tersebut kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa : (1) pembelajaran kooperatif efektif meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara setelah dilaksanakan perlakuan. Tehnik pembelajaran kooperatif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar berbicara bahasa inggris siswa hasilnya lebih baik daripada menggunakan aktivitas convensional yang diindikasikan dengan nilai t-test 24,403 nilai p-value(2-tailed).000 yang tidak lebih besar dari 0,5 tingkat signifikansi; (2) siswa termotivasi dalam belajar bahasa inggris dengan menggunakan tehnik pembelajaran kooperatif, seperti ditunjukkan oleh nilai rata-rata yang mencapai 85,97.ini berarti bahwa para siswa digolongkan siswa dengan motivasi yang sangat tinggi.
