Abstract

ABSTRAK ALI WIRA RAHMAN. 2013. Kinerja Mengajar Dosen yang Baik dalam Kaitannya Dengan Persepsi Mahasiswa Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare (UMPAR) (Dibimbing oleh Muhammad Amin Rasyid dan Syarifuddin Dollah) Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) menggambarkan konsep dosen mengenai dosen bahasa inggris yang baik (2) menginvestigasi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kinerja dosen tersebut dan (3) menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa terhadap kinerja mengajar dosen yang baik. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah seorang dosen bahasa Inggris di UMPAR dan responden dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester dua jurusan bahasa inggris UMPAR dan kolega subjek tersebut. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi nonprtisipan, wawancara terstruktur dan semi-struktur dan studi dokumen. Hasil dari analisis data menunjukkan (1) konsep subjek mengenai dosen yang baik adalah (a) dosen harus memiliki tanggung jawab terhadap materi yang di ampuhnya (b) tujuan pembelajaran harus dipersiapkan dengan baik dan harus tercapai (c) mengakomodasi kebutuhan mahasiswa (d) mengontrol situasi kelas (e) terbuka dengan mahasiswa (f) disiplin dan (g) memiliki selera humor yang baik. (2) pada kinerja mengajar, beliau perhatian pada faktor pedagogik, faktor professional, faktor personality, faktor social, faktor budaya antara dan faktor keluarga. Faktor professional menjadi faktor yang paling penting untuk dipertimbangkan dalam kinerja mengajar beliau (3) persepsi mahasiswa mengenai dosen bahasa inggris yang baik meliputi kompetensi pedagogik, kompetensi profesional, kompetensi kepribadian, kompetensi sosial serta kompetensi budaya antara. Kompetensi kepribadian menjadi kompetensi utama untuk menjadi seorang dosen yang baik dalam persepsi mahasiswa. ABSTRACT ALI WIRA RAHMAN. 2013. Good English Lecturer Teaching Performance in Regard to the Students’ Perception of English Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare (UMPAR)(Supervised by Muhammad Amin Rasyid and Syarifuddin Dollah) The objectives of this research were: (1) describing the lecturer’s concept about good English lecturer (2) investigating the factors that influenced the lecturer’s teaching performance and (3) investigating the students’ perception of teaching performance of good English lecturer. This research applied descriptive qualitative research with case study method. The subject of the research was an English lecturer of English department of UMPAR and the respondents of this research were the second semester students of English Department of UMPAR and the lecturer’s colleagues. The data were collected by using nonparticipant observation, structured and semi –structured interview and document study. The results of data analysis were (1) the subject’s concepts of good English lecturer were (a) the lecturer should have responsibility with the material they hold, (b) the learning objectives should be prepared well and it had to be achieved, (c) accommodating the students’ need, (d) ccontrolling the classroom situation, (e) staying closer with the students, (f) being discipline, and (g) having a good sense of humor, (2) in her teaching performance, the subject concerned to the Pedagogical factor, professional factor, personality factor, social factor, intra and intercultural factor and family factor. Professional factor becomes the most important factor to be considered by her in teaching performance (3) students’ perception of good English lecturer covered pedagogical competence, professional competence, personality competence, social competence and intra and intercultural competence. The personality competence became the main competence to be a good lecturer in the students’ perception.
