Abstract

This study is descriptive research with qualitative in nature, aims at describing mathematic connection of students by considering the mathematical ability. The research subjects were three students of class A1 ofMathematics Education Study Program of batch 2016 of academic year 2018/2019. The instruments of this study were mathematicconnection tests and guided interview. Data validity employed triangulation method. The results of the study reveal that the students’ability in problem solving based on the indicator of mathematic connection reviewed: (1) the connection among mathematic concept: subject with high mathematic ability, subject with medium mathematic ability, and subject with low mathematic ability understood the questions and collected the information presented. The subject with high mathematic ability conducted: first, identified the feasiibility of the question with the concept thought by the subject. Then, thought various appropriate ways of solutions, and the subject conductedcorrelation among limit concept and derivation. On yhe other hand, the subject with medium and low mathematic abilities merely thought about the concept aligned with the solution of the questions and correlated among the concepts, (2) the mathematic correlation with other subject: subject with high mathematic ability, subject with medium mathematic ability and subject with low mathematic ability collected information presented. The subject with high and medium mathematic ability made correlation between what had been understood and being questioned appropriately. On the other hand, the subject with low mathematic ability did not conduct correlation among other subject, subject merely used the information given, (3) the mathematic correlation with daily lives: subject with high mathematic ability, subject with medium mathematic ability, subject with low mathematic ability collected information presented. No subject could make solution appropriately. The subject with high mathematic ablity made mistake in understanding the questions do no conduct connection. The subject with low mathematic ability did solution according to him but not sure about the answers. Keywords: mathematic ability, mathematic connection
