Abstract

Abstract – The aim of this research was to determine the effect of PBL, RQA, PBLRQA, and conventional learning on retention of students with different academic level in Basic Biology classroom. This research was a quasi experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. Student’s retention was measured by essay test. Data were analyzed with one way ANCOVA. The result of research showed that: 1) learning strategy and academic level effected on student’s retention. PBLRQA had the potency to improve student’s retention greater than others strategy, 2) retention of students with higher academic level was greater than lower academic level, 3) interaction between learning strategy and academic level did not effect on student’s retention. PBLRQA could implement to the others subjects. Key words: Problem-based learning, reading questioning answering, retention, academic level
