Abstract

This research was ex-post facto, the aim was investigated directly and indirectly the contribution of emotional intelligence and critical thinking ability towards mathematics learning achievement through self-efficacy on grade VIIIth of SMP Negeri in Palopo city of academic year 2017/2018. The research population was 2433 students with the number of samples were 307 students. Samples of this research were chosen by simple random sampling technique. Instruments have used in this research were (1) emotional intelligence scale, (2) critical thinking ability test, (3) self-efficacy scale, and (4) mathematics learning achievement test. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and SEM analysis (Structural Equation Modelling). The result of the research shows that (1) most of students on grade VIIIth of SMP Negeri in Palopo city have emotional intelligence are in very high category, critical thinking ability are in low category, self-efficacyare in very high category, and the mathematics learningachievementis in low category, (2) emotional intelligence have an positive influence directly and indirectly toward student’s mathematics learning achievementthrough critical thinking ability, emotional intelligence have an positive influence directly and indirectly toward student’s mathematics learning achievementthrough self-efficacy, whereasemotional intelligence have no positive influence indirectly toward student’s mathematics learning achievementthrough critical thinking ability and self-efficacy, (3) critical thinking ability have no positive influence indirectly toward student’s mathematics learning achievementthrough self-efficacy, whereasself-efficacy have an positive influence directly and indirectly toward student’s mathematics learning achievement, (4) emotional intelligence have an positive influence directly toward self-efficacy and emotional intelligence have an positive influence directly toward critical thinking ability, whereas critical thinking ability have no positive influence directly toward self-efficacy.
