Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims: 1) To investigate whether the Strategies-Based Instruction has a significant effect on students speaking skill in STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone. 2) To investigate whether the students in STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone are interested in learning English speaking through Strategies-Based Instruction. The researcher applied quasi-experiment design. This research was designed into two groups, experimental and control group. The total students of experimental group were 30 and the total students of control group were 30. The result of the data analysis showed that the mean score of the experimental group in post test was 70.37, while the mean score of control group was 59.63. It means that mean score of the experimental group was higher than of the control group. It was proven by comparison of mean score of pretest and posttest. The difference of pretest and posttest mean score of experimental group was statistically significant. While the students response percentage from the questionnaire was 89.63. It means, the students interested in learning speaking through strategy based instruction. Based on the findings, the researcher conclude that the implementation of strategies-based instruction was more effective in developing speaking skill at English department students’ of STKIP Muhammadiyah Bone.
