Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research are (1) to find out how effective the use of BBC internet material than text book material to teach reading comprehension, (2) to find out whether or not using BBC internet material interest of students reading activities. This research applied quasi experimental design. The subject of the research was the second year students of SMAN 1 Majene. This research assigned two groups namely control group and experimental group. each group consisted of 24 students. This research employed a cluster random sampling technique. Class XI IPA 4 was as experimental class and class XI IPA 2 as control class. The data were collected by using test and questionnaire. Those data were analyzed quantitatively which the researcher used ANOVA for three level comprehension and T-test for significant of reading comprehension achievement by using SPSS version 20. The research finding showed that the mean score of the experimental group was higher than the control group in learning reading comprehension by using BBC internet material. The mean score of reading comprehension achievement for the experimental group was 80.55, while the control group was 66.83, and interest was 75.75. The result of data analysis showed that: (1) The students’ reading achievement increase after treatment by using BBC internet material. In experimental group was higher than control group; gain score was 47,63 > 36,6. It means that BBC internet material was effective for the students’ reading comprehension achievement (2) the students interested in learning reading through BBC internet material; as indicated by the mean score 75.75 Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the use of BBC internet material is effective to increase reading comprehension mastery of the second year students of SMAN 1 Majene.
