Abstract

ABSTRACT The research aimed at finding out information about the quality of English teacher-made final test according to item analysis and the preparation of constructing teacher-made final tests in Watampone. The test quality was determined after it was used in school examination test. This research employed survey research using descriptive method. The researcher analyzed the data and then described the research finding quantitatively.The population of this research was five teachers who teach in eleventh grade at public senior high schools in Watampone. This research applied simple random sampling technique by taking two different schools as sampel. They are SMAN 1 Watampone and SMAN 4 Watampone. The result of analysis shows that no tests are perfectly good. It is found that all tests need to be revised. Test quality as whole shows thatall tests have low reliability.It is found that only 34.55% of all test items are valid and the proportion of difficulty level of 30.91% items need to be revised. In terms of discrimination index, it is found that 49.09% items are proper. While in distractor analysis, overall it can be seen that there are only 9.1% which all its distractors perfectly work.While, in terms of preparation that public seniorhigh school teachers in Watampone follow in constructing teacher-made tests is divided into five main parts. In preparing the test, the procedures were considering the basic competence of the subject, choosing new items and combining tests that were used before based on the curriculum used in that school. Besides, another teacher combines test item that have chosen from the textbook or item bank or internet.In writing test, the procedures were re-writing the test items from item bank or internet and textbook in constructing test and modifying the test used before. While in analyzing a test, the procedures were predicting item difficulty then revising the test items, allowing the other teachers to check or verifying her made test items or no item analysis procedure was conducted during the test construction.About timing in preparing a test,a teacher needs two until three weeks to construct fifty multiple-choice test items. Besides, there is also teacher who needs one week to construct multiple-choice tests. While the teachers do not have different ways in providing test based on students’ ability.The teachers only construct multiple choice tests based on the essensial material that have been taught without considering students’ ability.
