Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research are: (1) to find out what the needs in teaching Economic English in relation to the students, lecturers, stakeholders, and governments. (2) to find out how the economic English instructional material based on Shariah Economy System is developed. (3) to find out how the economic English instructional material based on Shariah Economy System is in term of applicability, acceptability, and effectiveness. (4) to find out the lecturers’ perceptions toward the economic English instructional Material based on shariah economy system. (5) to find out the students’ perceptions to the use of the Economic English instructional material based on shariah economy system. This research is a research and development (R & D). It is order in five steps: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE). The subjects of the research used are: 188 students, 20 lecturers, 50 stakeholders and 3 experts. The research data are collected through questionnaires, Interview, Documentation, observation, and test. Finally, the data gotten are analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result shows that: (1) The development of economic English Instructional material based on shariah economy system is very important to be done because it is related students’ needs and level. The development of the material is based on the consideration of economic students’ wants, necessities and lacks related to the economic English and also other aspects such as existing economic English materials, learning environment, and teaching and learning process; (2) The product of economic English instructional material based on shariah economy system produced is the complete material that contains integrated skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing); besides that the material also contains all language components (grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and spelling). All of the language skills and components in the material are provided with some exercises and images to make the students interesting and easy to understand the material; (3) From the implementation of economic English instructional material based on Shariah Economy System, it is gotten that the instruction material is very acceptable and applicable with the mean score is 4.15 and 4.19; and for the effectiveness of the instructional material indicates that the application of economic English instructional material based on shariah economy system improve significantly the students’ economic English achievement with probability value is 0.00 while α is 0.05; (4) The lecturers in Economy Faculty of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University have high positive perception toward economic English instructional material based on shariah economy system with the mean score 4.22; and (5) The students also have high positive perception toward economic English instructional material based on shariah economy system with the mean score 4.40.
