ABSTRACT This research aimed to find out whether or not the use of Tic Tac Toe Game can improve students’ vocabulary and to find out the students interest about the use of Tic Tac Toe Game in teaching vocabulary. The population of this research was the first grade of SMA Negeri 1 Bontocani. This research applied quasi-experimental design that involved two classes including experimental class and control class.The sample of this researcher was taken by using cluster random sampling technique; there were 58 studentsas sample, 30 students in XCas experimental class and 28 students in XA as control class.The instrument of this research was written test and Questionnaire. The results of the research revealed that mean score of experimental class in pretest was37.11 and the mean score of posttest was63.32. while the mean score of pretest in control class was 42.40 and the mean score of posttest was 53.07. It can be concluded that the students in experimental class performed better than the students in control class. It was also proven by the result of the t-test value where the result of the test value in pretest is biger than the significant a 0.091<0,05), and the result of the t-test value in post test is smaller thanthe significant a. (0.002>0.05). Based on the t-test result, the writer found that there is a significant difference of the studentsaftertheyare taught by using Tic Tac Toe Game. This indicates that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. The results of questionnaire were 21 students strongly interested, 6 students were interested, 3 students were hesitated.Mean score of questionnaire was 82.50. The results were considered that students interest in applying Tic Tac Toe Game in teaching learning process. In the other words the use of Tic Tac Toe Game can improve the students’vocabulary.
