Abstract

Abstract This research is a quasi-experimental design research, because researchers want to compare students' learning motivation after and before being given treatment in the form of group counseling with the Symbolic Modeling technique. The purpose of this study was to find out: (1) To find out the description of students' low learning motivation (2) To find out the description of the implementation of group counseling with symbolic modeling techniques to overcome the low learning motivation of students (3) To find out the effect of group counseling with using symbolic modeling techniques to increase students' learning motivation. This research uses experimental research which is used to find the effect of certain treatments on others under controlled conditions, the study population is class VIII students at SMP Negeri 10 Sinjai Timur as many as 20 respondents, divided into 2 groups, the experimental group and the control group. Data collection techniques use interviews and questionnaires. Then the results were obtained that (1) The description of the observations showed that there were around 45% of students who had skipped more than 5 times. Student learning motivation is in the low category.
