Abstract
This research is a Research and Development (R & D) research which aims to: (1) find out the need for developing interactive teaching materials to improve elementary school students' scientific literacy, (2) develop the prototype of interactive teaching materials to improve elementary school students' scientific literacy, (3) determine the level of validity, practicality and effectiveness of the developed interactive teaching materials to improve scientific literacy of elementary school students. The research employed Research and Development (R & D) by adopting Alessi and Trollip’s model. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews, observations, and feasibility and practicality assessment toold. The collected data were then analyzed with qualitative and quantitative analysis. The first result showed that theres is a high need for interactive teaching materials to improve the scientific literacy of elementary school students. The second result revealed that the developed prototype of interactive teaching materials is applicable to improve elementary school students' scientific literacy which was based the significance difference found before and after the application of prototype in the trial group. Last, the validity and practicality test falled into the category of a high validity and practicality. In summary, it can be concluded that the developed interactive teaching materials prototype is valid, practical and effective to improve the scientific literacy of elementary school students.
