Abstract

ABSTRACT It is inevitable that athletes have been through numerous emotions during practice or match. These emotions surely influence how athletes making decision. Athletes who cannot regulate their emotions when under pressure will harm their performance. So that it is absolutely important to practice emotional regulation using some strategies, especially self-talk. This research aims to reveal the relation between self-talk and emotional regulation. The population involved in this research is student-athlete of FIKK UNM who is chosen by simple random sampling. The number of students participating in this research was 180 and filled 2 Likert scales, those are Self-talk Scale and Emotional Regulation Questionnaire. Data research analysist uses descriptive statistic and inferential statistic, data analysist technics to test the hypothesis using moderated regression analytic. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive relationship between self-talk and emotion regulation, so that the more often individuals use positive self talk, the better their emotional regulation will be. Keywords: Self-talk, emotional regulation, goal-directed self talk.
