ABSTRACT Bulukumba district is an area which has numerous potentials and local wisdom that can be developed to several object targets. One of them is as learning object target. In order to make learning effective, development of teaching material is important to be conducted. The research aims 1) to produce descriptionon the development process of geography teaching material based on local wisdom in SMAN I Bulukumba; (2) to discover whether the development of teaching material based on local wisdom can improve the effectiveness of geography learning in SMAN1Bulukumba. The research is Research and Development (R&D) conducted in three stages, namely 1) preliminary study, 2) product development, aid 3) product effectiveness test. The procedure of the research was started by preliminary study to obtain initial information on learning objective condition and the need of teaching material based on local wisdom. The next stage was designing and developing the product of teaching material based on local wisdom, peer assessment, expert test, small scale test and wide scale test. The revision of development product was conducted based on suggestions from each assessment or the test which was conducted to produce teaching material product which feasible and ready to be test in terms of effectiveness in real learning. The last stage was conducted effectiveness test of teaching material developed by implementing development product in geography learning in SMAN 1 Bulukumba. The results of the research reveal that effectiveness test are in forms of scores differences in cycle ‘1 and cycle Ti. The result of effectiveness test indicates that learning process by using teaching material based on local wisdom can improve the quality of learning results and cultivation of local wisdom values. This can be proved with the comparison of cycle I and cycle II test scores. The comparison of the average score of cycle I and cycle II tests show improvement, gain index analysis is in medium category. The interview results with the teachers and students also reveal that the students are motivated in learning, actively involve, enthusiastic, have courage to ask and express opinions, respect others, work together, and assist each other, able to assess, and show attitude of respecting local culture. The findings of this research are usefu 1 to teachers, students, and SMAN 1 as considerations in developing local curriculum. The findings of the research can be developed continuously and utilized for furtherdevelopment purposes. Keywords: teaching material, local wisdom, learning effectiveness
