Abstract

ABSTRACT Many studies on violence in schools have been carried out, but only a few have considered personality traits to explain the dynamics of violent behavior, so it is very important to study students' violent behavior based on personality traits. This study aims to see the differences in students' violent behavior tendencies based on personality traits. The subjects of this study amounted to 407 high school students with an age range of 15-18 years. The measuring instrument used in this study is the aggression questionnaire (Buss & Perry, 1992) and the Big-Five Inventory (BFI) scale by Ramdhani (2012). The data analysis used in this research is descriptive and inferential (Anova and crosstabulation). The results of this study indicate that there are significant differences in students' violent behavior based on personality traits. Students with personality tendencies of agreeableness, conscientiousness, and extraversion tend to display low violent behavior. Meanwhile, students with neuroticism and openness personality tendencies tend to display high levels of violent behavior or are very prone to violent behavior. The results of this research will be used as a source of information and reference in making preventive programs against violent behavior that is rampant in schools. Keywords: Personality traits, Violent behavior, Students.
