Abstract
Preliminary Study of Jeneberang River Utilization as a A Meansof Fish Cultivation with Net Net floating cage System. River is an important environmental aspect for the community around the river banks. One of the utilization of the river by the surrounding community is to utilize the river as a place of fish cultivation. Fish cultivation with net floating cage system is familiar and very useful for the surrounding community to support their economy. This research was conducted by observing the locations of the net floating cage along the Jeneberang River from Barombong Bridge, Makassar to Twin Bridge, Gowa and obtained by nine point location. In each location generally have 6 to 14 net floating cagewith average size of each cage that ranges from 2 x 3 meters to 6 x 6 meters and the depth of the net floating cage about 0.6 to 1 meter. Types of fish cultivated in thenet floating cages are Nile Tilapia (Oreochromisniloticus), Red Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis sp.), Gourami (Osphronemus gouramy), Catfish (Clarias batrachus), Koi (Cyprinus carpio), Trimac Cichlid (Amphilophus trimaculatus), and Goldfish (Carrassius carassius) with the various price for each type of fish ranging from tens of thousands to millions of rupiah. The feed that given to the the fish was the pellet feed obtained from the market and also fed with water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica). The success of fish farming with keramba cage system in that region can't be separated from environmental factors that suitable for the growth and development of cultivated fish so it is feasible to do further study on the utilization of Jeneberang River as a means of fish culture with net floating cage system.
