Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth about the picture of marriage adjustment in married women who are betrothed. The study uses qualitative methods with phenomenological approaches. Respondents in this study found three women who married through an arranged marriage process with a marriage age of 1-10 years. The data collection technique used is semi-structured interview. The data analysis technique was carried out using a phenomenological analysis model. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that respondents interpret marriage adjustment as a process that can run well when there is an ability to resolve marital conflicts and a balanced role in the household. Respondents were constrained in adjusting to their marriage due to unstable household economy, meddling in-laws, poor communication, restricted relationships, and husbands who were harsh, rude, arrogant, and inattentive. Marriage adjustments will work best when both partners have a good agreement, lots of activities together, and balanced roles in the household. Respondents have a strategy in making marriage adjustments, namely by being patient, relenting, communicating with their husbands, accepting their husbands' persuasion, and leaving their husbands and staying with their husbands to avoid ongoing conflicts.
