Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the relationship between peer attachment and academic stress on students of SMAN 1 Mamasa. The population in this study were 787 students of SMAN 1 Mamasa class XI and XII, and the sample were 265 students selected using purposive sampling technique. The sample criteria are having close friends at school with the same gender, not in a romantic relationship and meeting very often for at least 6 months. Data was collected using the ESSA scale (α=0.808) for academic stress and the IPPA scale (α=0.937) for peer attachment. This study uses a quantitative method with the Spearman Rho correlation test technique. The results of data analysis obtained are correlation coefficient r = -0.611, significance level p = 0.000 (p <0.05), and coefficient of determination R2 = 0.383, indicating that peer attachment has a strong negative correlation with academic stress in SMAN 1 students. Mamasa with peer attachment contributed 38.3% to academic stress. The results of this study indicate that the more insecurity peer attachment, the higher the academic stress.
