Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in the division of labor based on gender, namely based on the type of work and time allocation for corn farmers in Soppeng Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive type of research. Methods Data collection is done through interviews, observation, and documentation. Informants were selected based on a purposive sampling technique (deliberately) with the criteria of being corn farmers with the criteria that they have been married for at least 3 years and have children. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that there were three stages of work in corn farming families, namely pre-planting, cultivation, sales, and handling of the results, which indicated a division of labor. Men are more dominant in the public sector by playing a role in a variety of jobs ranging from planting to sales. While women, besides monopolizing work in the domestic sector, also help their husbands in the public sector, from pre-planting to the stage of selling and handling the produce. This division of labor makes women experience a double workload. However, harmony in the family remains because of the consensus. Keywords: Gender; Mechanism; Division of Work
