Abstract

Language acquisition in children is an important thing to study. An understanding of language acquisition is one of the right foundations for teaching language to children. This study aims to describe the language acquisition of children aged 3 years and 10 months in the fields of phonology, syntax and semantics. This study applies a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection was carried out using record-recording techniques. The subject of this study was Arsyila Yumna (AY), a 3 year 10 month old girl who lives in Parepare City. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that AY was able to pronounce all vowel phonemes correctly. For consonant phonemes, the pronunciation is perfect if the units are pronounced. However, there is still an error in pronouncing two consonants in one particular word. In terms of syntax, AY is already able to pronounce words in a number of simple and complex sentences. AY has also shown the ability to produce a variety of sentence variations, such as declarative, interrogative, imperative, and interjection sentences. Meanwhile, from the semantic aspect, AY has shown the ability to distinguish the meaning of words and their use as well as understand sentences or the context of speech. The results of this study can be used as a reference for parents, teachers, or people around children in teaching language to children.
