ABSTRACT There were two research questions. First, how are the learning models and emotional intelligence among students in SekolahTinggiTheologiaJaffray Makassar? How is the multicultural-based cooperative learning model that is valid, practical, and effective to improve the students' emotional intelligence in SekolahTinggiTheologiaJaffray Makassar developed? This research aims at analyzing the learning models and emotional intelligence among students in SekolahTinggiTheologiaJaffray Makassar. In addition, this research is to improve the multicultural-based cooperative learning model that is valid, practical, and effective to improve the students' emotional intelligence in SekolahTinggiTheologiaJaffray Makassar. This research was research and development. The procedures in the development of the multicultural-based cooperative learning model are through seven steps. The first was determining the problems. It was through the preliminary research as need assessment process. The second is collecting data. It was in the form of literature studies and field studies. The third is designing product. It was in the form of book model and learning tools (lesson plans, teaching materials, and students’ worksheet). The fourth is validating the design. It consisted of the instrument validation and model validation. The fifth is revising the design. It was based on the results of expert validation on education. The sixth was testing the product. The seventh was revising the product based on the results of the test. The subjects in testing the product or instrument were some experts on research and evaluation of education. The validation of the model consisted of three educational experts, two partner lecturers, and 25 students. The types of data were data from preliminary studies, data from the validation, data from observations, and data from the questionnaire. The design of validation was the validation of the foremost experts conducted by the Promoter and Co-promoter and the instrument validation performed by experts on research and evaluation of education. There are three research instruments, namely: 1) instruments for validity; 2) instrument for practicality; 3) instruments for effectiveness. Data was analyzed using descriptive analysis. This research has produced the multicultural-based cooperative learning model that is valid, practical, and effective. This model is supported by learning theories, theoretical models, and this model has a syntax components, social systems, reaction principle, support systems, instructional impact, and accompanying impact. Lesson plan, learning material, and students' worksheet were then designed. This model is valid according to experts. Therefore, it can be practically implemented in the field well, and can be effectively delivered results in line with expectations.
