Abstract

Abstract: Implementation of Advance Organizer Learning Approach to Improve the Critical Thinking Skill and Understanding of Physics Concepts for VIII Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Ma’rang District of Pangkep. This study was True Experimental Design which aimed to determine whether or notcritical thinking skills and understanding of physics concept sat the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ma'rang are increase. The independent variables were conventional learning approach and advance organizer learning approach, while the dependent variable was thecritical thinking skills and understanding of physics concepts. The population was all eighth grade studentsof SMP Negeri 1 Ma'rang, while the sample consisted of class VIIIA as experimental class with a number of students were 22 students and class VIIIB as class control with the number of students were 20students. At theend of the lesson, both classes were given a test of critical thinking skills and understanding of concepts formeasuring critical thinking skills and students’understanding of physics concepts in the Cahaya material. The data analysis used descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Descriptive analysis showed that the mean score of critical thinking skills and understanding of physics concept sat the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ma'rang using an advance organizer approach was higher than the score of critical thinking skills and students’understanding of physics concepts that was taught using conventional approach
