Abstract
The Sulawesi Islands are a province with a variety of cultures and traditions, in this case the West Sulawesi Islands, to be precise in the regency of Majene with the likes of Mandar. The characteristic possessed by the Mandar tribe is toughness in the sea to the point that the Mandar people are skilled sailors. Qualitative method is the method used in this research, by using some information as a form of representation of the passiluba lopi tradition with observation, interview and documentation techniques. Sandeq is the fastest sailing ship in the world and is also an icon of the maritime prowess of the Mandar people recorded in history. Lopi Sandeq is able to sail to Singapore, Maleysia, Japan, Madagascar, Australia and America. Ras sandeq or pasiluba lopi was previously competed when the fishermen were on vacation due to weather conditions, the fishermen filled their spare time by holding a race using a sandeq lopi. sandeq.lopi sandeq as a form of the mandar community tradition believes that this passiluba lopi activity is closely related to the sustenance obtained from boat products, the process of respecting nature, and the relationship of belief between culture and religion of the Mandar tribe.
