Abstract

MODEL PENDAMPINGAN BELAJAR SISWA SMP YPS SINGKOLE OLEH ORANGTUA DI RUMAH MENTORING MODEL OF LEARNING AT HOME IMPLEMENTED BY PARENTS TO STUDENTS AT SMP YPS SINGKOLE Jeffry K. Tumakaka ABSTRACT The study aimed at discovering (i) the description of mentoring model of learning at home implemented by parents to students at SMP YPS Singkole in East Luwu district, (ii) the factors which influence the parents in conducting mentoring model of learning at home to students at SMP YPS Singkole in East Luwu district, and (iii) the solutions conducted by the parents to solve problems of mentoring model of learning at home. The results of the study revealed that (i) the mentoring model of learning implemented by the parents to their children showed full support to them. The ways in providing the supports were various on each of individual; some mothers took more roles than fathers and vice versa some fathers took more roles than mothers, and some parents even took the same roles; (ii) the supporting factors were the readiness of parents to prepare learning facilities for their children, the seriousness of learning showed by the children, good communication between parents and children, providing advice to children and well responded by them, and attention on achievement of the children, whereas the inhibiting factors were the parents were busy, the internal and external factors from the children, lack of attention for the achievement of students showed by the homeroom, long hours of watching TV without control from the parents; and (iii) the solutions conducted by the parents were conducted dialog to children upon their needs in learning, pro active in asking the achievement of their children to the homeroom, motivated the children to achieve their goals, and provided as a role model to their children.
