Abstract
This article addresses the concept of local genius based on sociological perspective. The writer employs a qualitative research through providing obseration and elaborating document collection in relation to central theme. Generally speaking, this article comes to conclude that Islam in Indonesia is able to interact with local culture, including in South Sulawesi. Local genius of South Sulawesi is formed through pangaderreng or pangngadakkang which has 5 (Five) basic principles; ade', bicara, rappang, wari' and sara'. The five key elements were found and developed by people of the Buginese-Makassarese in the context of making a dynamics interaction. Pangaderreng or pangadakkang means to maintain and to foster the dignity and human values, to uphold equality and wisdom and to stick to siri'. The fifth element of pangderreng or pangngadakang is sara'. Sara' was developed into an institution as it has become the soul and spirit of the four other elements in pangaderreng or pangangadakkang
