Abstract

EFFECTIVITY OF FUTURE ORIENTATION TRAINING TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ OPTIMISM Nur Aliah (ganinuraliah5@gmail.com) Muh. Ahkam (ahkamalwie@yahoo.com) Muh. Nur Hidayat Nurdin (Dayat20858@gmail.com) Faculty of Psychology, University of Makassar Abstract This study aims to determine the effectivity of future orientation training to improve students’ optimism. Participant in this study were freshmen of Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Optimism scale was used in this study. Reliability of optimism scale was 0.626. Data was analyzed by using Mann Whitney U-test analysis and processed by using SPPS for windows ver. 22, Significant value collected was 0,041 (p < 0,05). This results of data analysis showing that the hypothesis is accepted, future orientation training effective to improve students’ optimism. Keywords: Future Orientation, Optimis INTRODUCTION In the current era of competition to obtain guarantee a better future, it is not enough just to pass and rely on the high school diploma or other equivalent level. Latif (2013) suggests a survey conducted by Kompas Daily about the jobs being offered to the public, most of the jobs there requires graduates Tier-1 or at least a Diploma 3 with specific areas of expertise. This situation makes the high school graduates flocked to gain seats in the college. The high school graduates who become freshmen at the university face a variety of threats. Threats in the form of threats of new students academic and social threats. Adaptation of students to college students into separate issue (Graha, 2012). Results of data collection conducted in February at the Faculty of Psychology UNM academic unknown threats that must be faced by new students namely, related assignments, academic systems and adaptation at the Faculty of Psychology UNM. At the Faculty of Psychology UNM note also that all new students are required to attend a minimum of three basic education which is facilitated by the Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa of the Faculty of Psychology UNM is Orientasi Kemahasiswaan dan Kelembagaan (REAL),
