Abstract

ABSTRACT Local literature particularly Buginese literature is the cultural repertoires of Buginese ancestors reflecting their taste, the worldview, and the way of thinking. The Buginese literature comprises a number of life advices existed in the values of pappaseng. The advices are still in line with the current situation included in form of building humans’ character. Regarding, Indonesia nowadays really craves characters that are able to increase its image in the world. When the values containing in pappaseng are observed very well and implemented in life through the local contents in schools, the writer believes the characters of Buginese people in particular and Indonesian people in general are able to be formed as expected. Based on the writer's observation, generally, in daily life the formed characters through the implementation of pappaseng values cover (1) the honesty, (2) the unity, (3) the work ethic and courage. Therefore, the values of pappasengare really appropriate to socialize.
